ASHDA is a private, non-stock, non-profit organization, created to promote people’s well-being and welfare, advocate the enhancement of people’s potentials and capabilities, and foster active participation of the community through collective actions in the process of change and transformation, focusing primarily on health care service and governance among the poor and marginalized sectors in the Philippines. Officially formed in 2008, its founding members are active members of both the academe and the medical community. Doctors, professors, nurses, public health professionals, women and gender specialists and community developers form the core group.
The organization was envisioned and formed as a vital and necessary link between the RHU’s/CHO’s, the LGU’s and the marginalized communities – initiating, facilitating and implementing national health goals and services in select localities. ASHDA programs and directions are fastened in its development paradigm for community empowerment and sustainability, fostering and unifying healthcare delivery with community organization and development.
